Leydi Beatriz Alas: An Example of Leadership and Overcoming in El Salvador.
If you want to listen to the story here:
Leydi Beatriz Alas, a 24-year-old resident of the Sitio Cenícero community in Suchitoto, El Salvador, is a true example of self-improvement and leadership. She is currently in the fourth year of her Bachelor's Degree in Juridical Sciences. She is a person with solid values, ambition, empathy, and unwavering determination.
Before she turned 15, Leydi was a child who did not have many opportunities to express herself and share her point of view. However, instead of settling, she decided to focus on her studies and develop a reading habit that has become a personal and professional mainstay in her life.
At the age of 15, her life began to take a positive turn. She began interacting with young people from other communities while studying at the National Institute of Suchitoto. During that time, she began to identify positive qualities in herself and form her criteria, which eventually led her to lead her section mates.
Today, Leydi lives in Sitio Cenícero, a community with 80 families and a total population of 200 people, located on the shores of Suchitlán Lake.
This community is notable for its library, green areas, and the strong organization and solidarity among its inhabitants.
One of the decisive moments in Leydi's life was her participation in the "ACTÍVATE" program, where she began to relate to the people in her community and developed a deeper awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. She also acquired the basics of what it means to be a leader.
Leydi attributes much of her success to her unconditional support from her parents, teachers, and peers. These individuals not only encouraged her but also became role models for her.
The qualities that define Leydi's leadership are empathy, impartiality, active listening, self-motivation, and responsibility. For her, a leader is someone who can motivate and influence a group of people with the goal of making a positive impact on society, and she values the participation of all team members.
Looking to the future, in 5 years, Leydi sees herself as a professional in law, working in environmental leadership and training young people to develop their own leadership in their communities. In 10 years, she hopes to see her community free of pollution and full of green areas for all to enjoy.
The legacy she wants to leave in her community includes the formation of young leaders, support in the legal area, and the protection of the environment. Leydi also mentions the positive impact that the SERES organization has had on her life, helping her to step out of her comfort zone and discover qualities she didn't even know she had.
Finally, Leydi sends a powerful message to young people, "Let's get out of our comfort zone and be that little ray of light and inspiration for the new generations." Her story is an inspiring testament to how determination, leadership, and empathy can change lives and entire communities.
