Aquaponics project makes local news

Fernando Maldonado – aquaponics enthusiast – has been working hard to get Seres’ demonstration aquaponicssystem up and running and producing fresh, organic food and after months of hard work, the moment has finally arrived! Just two weeks ago, Fernando ran the first training workshop for campesinos and small fish farmers from across Guatemala, some of which travelled for up to 4 hours to make it do the one-day workshop that included a hands-on demonstration of the new educational aquaponics system. The system will be used for just such a purpose – teaching traditional subsistence farmers and small-scale aquaculturists that there is a sustainable, more economically viable way to produce healthy, organic food. The project was recently featured in El Periodico, one of Guatemala’s largest newspapers.
